The Cumberland Visitor Center is located in the historic 1913 Western Maryland Railway Station at 13 Canal Street, in Canal Place. A hub for travelers for centuries, Cumberland now greets thousands of trail tourists every year. The Great Allegheny Passage and the C&O Canal towpath join together in Maryland’s historic “Queen City,” with dozens of listings on the National Register of Historic Places. From Cumberland, the GAP climbs gradually for the next 24 miles. You and your bike can board the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad at Canal Place in Cumberland and take a 15 mile scenic ride through the mountains to Frostburg. The railroad normally runs May through December, but, please check with the railroad for updated schedules www.wmsr.com .
